 A course on “Introduction to Systems Engineering” 26th to 28th April 2018


This short course was designed and directed by Shri J Jayaraman. He was supported by S/Shri P S Krishnan, G Natrajan and Dr. Venkatanarayana Rao. 15 lectures were delivered by Shri Jayaraman and one lecture each by others.  
33 of the 35 sponsored participants from NAL, BEL, ISAC, CDOT, ADE, LRDE, CABS, MTRDC and CAIR attended the course at DROMI, DRDO Complex, and CV Raman Nagar Bangalore. 
Course material, distributed to the participants at the time of registration, comprised of indexed 1000 references, 12 case studies and lecture notes. Case studies illustrated tailoring aspects of SE.

THERMAL DESIGN OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENTS on 18th and 19th July 2019.

 

Two day technology training program on Thermal Design of Electronic Equipment was held on 18th and 19th July 2019 at BAE/Nalanda, Bangalore. Shri S Varadarajan, former Director, LRDE, Bangalore inaugurated the training programme and delivered key note address.

Shri K R Narayanaswamy, Sc. F (Retd.) of LRDE  B-1175 was the Course Director.

Shri. V V Raghava Rao, Sc. G (Retd.), ADE,  Dr. K Srinivasan, Visiting Professor, IISc, Bangalore, 

 

Shri. A K Sreevastava, Sc.E,  Shri. Arvind Sinha, Sc.E, and Shri Shiva Kumar, Sc. G  from LRDE and Smt. Annapurna, Sc.F from, CABS covered the following topics :

1. Introduction to thermal management of electronic equipment

2. Basic and problems of Thermal Management,

3.Cooling of electronics, components level, PCB level, Hybrid Circuits, enclosure cooling, Cooling of electronics in land based system, airborne systems, Ship and submarine based systems, missiles and space systems

4.Finned heat transfer – conduction, convection, radiation phase change materials, liquid cooling – direct and indirect cooling, cold plates, mechanical refrigeration

5. Goals for thermal design, physical basis for thermal design, Documentation of thermal design

6.Special cooling techniques – jet impingement synthetic jets, boiling and condensation cooling, steady long term cooling, short term cooling, cooling of missile based system

7.Thermal modelling – principles of thermal modelling, accuracy of thermal modelling, problems in modelling choosing modelling software, physical properties, thermal interfaces,

8.High temperature environment, thermal cycling of electronic equipments, Reliability 9.Case study of a radar system cooling.

 

30 participants attended the course successfully.
